he roots of Xometrics’ technology trace back to the late 1990s, when our cofounder, Michael, first envisioned replacing traditional weights with a computer-controlled motor to deliver active resistance in a cable fitness machine.
Michael’s passion for fitness began in childhood. At just ten years old, he lost his father—only 38—to a sudden heart attack. That tragedy drove Michael to dedicate his life to health and fitness, determined to pursue a different biological destiny. Decades later, while watching his father-in-law endure a long and frustrating rehabilitation after surgery, Michael recognized the limitations of conventional equipment. It was then that he refined his idea: a computer-controlled motor that could provide resistance with unmatched precision and adaptability, far surpassing weights, springs, or bands.
For years, Michael searched for the right partner to bring his vision to life. In 2018, fate intervened at a dinner hosted by our CEO, Dahlia, where Michael met Coop—now our head of engineering and cofounder. Coop immediately saw the brilliance of the concept and the enormous potential for positive impact. Within months, Coop had built V1, our first proof-of-concept prototype. V1 exceeded expectations, proving that the technology was not only feasible but truly groundbreaking. With that, Xometrics was born, and Brandon, our director of fitness, soon joined the team.
In the years since, Coop and the engineering team have been designing and refining the ultimate platform for this technology: the Xo-Trainer. After decades of vision, years of development, and relentless commitment, we are proud to say the Xo-Trainer is a breakthrough innovation—poised to transform the health and fitness of millions, from first-time gym-goers to elite professionals.
